Storage Drives

There will be 3 options for storage options within the automobile. The best solution will depend on the activity that would need to be done. All of the drives will work, but there are best case solutions that would be applicable to the device used. Modern day automobiles are essentially computers on wheels. They have interfaces, applications, and storage to assure that they can operate properly. The storage options are as follows:

  • 2230 NVME
  • 2280 NVME
  • SD Card Reader
  • USB4 Port

2230 NVME

This drive is integrated into the automobile, and not designed to be easily replaceable. The automobile’s OS and applications will be installed on this drive. When an update comes in, the update will load onto this drive. The capacity for this NVME is 2TB which will be more than enough for any role the automobile might need to have access to. Physical upgrades to this drive must be done at the dealership.

2280 NVME

This drive will be accessible from behind the Infotainment Center. This drive is intended for any media files that might need to be in the automobile. For example, a movie that is frequently watched might be on this drive. Music that the owner wishes to play reliably might be on this drive. The maximum capacity is 8TB, but this will be more than enough to cover hundreds of movies, and tens of thousands of songs. Upgrades can be done on the consumer level by simply replacing a 2280 NVME Drive to a higher capacity. I don’t see many people saying they have too much capacity, and downgrade.

SD Card Reader

Below the Infotainment Center will be a slot for an SDXC card. The maximum capacity for these cards will be 2TB, and this is designed to easily transfer files from the SD card to the 2280 NVME drive. The files can also remain on the card, but high definition video should not use the much slower speed of the SD Card Reader. Updates can also be performed through the card reader.

USB4 Port

A USB-C port supporting USB4 speeds will be right of the SD Card Reader, and can handle any capacity of thumb drives. This port will be available as an option to the SD Card Reader. As with the SD Card Reader, the owner can choose to import media files from the USB Drive to the NVME drive for media files Updates can also be performed through the USB4 port.
